Working with Context, Identity/Diversity, and Universal Equity 10am to 4.30pm

An Embedded, Whole-Practice Approach

The purpose of this free one-day workshop is to explore and apply an embedded approach to therapeutic practice—one that integrates context, identity, diversity, and universal equity by design, rather than as an add-on. This approach, known as 'Whole-Person' or 'Client in Context' Practice, emphasizes embedding social and personal context, difference, and diversity as standard for all clients, while also fostering greater self-awareness of one's own self and lived context.

Overview

It is important to recognise that both our own and our clients' lifespan experiences and adversities are not only interpersonal oriented but also contextual. That is, our embodied selves exist in relationship with the personal, social, and cultural contexts we inhabit (e.g., environment, events, resources, culture, discrimination, structural policies).

Background

The latest training competencies (e.g., SCoPEd, Jan 22, ACA) require us to incorporate aspects such as context, culture, difference, and diversity throughout the pillars of practice (e.g., development, theory, skills, and practice).

To achieve an embedded approach, various aspects of 'self in context' must be included in a holistic, non-fragmented understanding of what it means to be human in the world. By intentionally embedding essential yet often overlooked and fragmented concepts—such as identity, similarity, difference, diversity, culture, social context, power dynamics, intersectionality, neurodiversity, antidiscrimination, and stress-, trauma-, and harm-informed models—into our understanding of both ourselves and our clients' experiences and relationships, we can foster fairer, more inclusive, and stronger practices.

This training will introduce a 'whole view' of self/clients and provide a practical approach to embedding the concept of 'client in context' into our daily work with clients, including within supervision and base helping and therapeutic cirricula.

Training

The course is interactive, with plenty of opportunities to learn through peer discussion and practical, thought provoking activities, and ideas for practitioners to implement in their own practice/service.

Testimonials

“This was a seamlessly run, exceptional training. I don't think that you could've done any better. I am still processing the day's contents but I know that I will be able to access the information when I am in sessions because this has happened after the previous course.(It is embodied learning.) I thought that the structure and organisation of the course material was really well thought out; the start of the course was really powerful and the way that you interwove the case study and built in the role play really helped my learning. I would enrol for a two day course specifically with TADF as I know how exceptional the training is. Thank you for an excellent but sadly much needed day. ”

“I’ve taken so much learning from the course, including of course a greater awareness of race based trauma and stress through the modules. I feel I can better support my clients as a result. I am glad I have access to the recording as I feel I will need to rewatch and revisit to consolidate the learning and think the platform is a great resource.”
